If you are diabetic or have high blood pressure, or both, this is a good breakfast. The Diabetes Association of Trinidad and Tobago was recommending Chee Mooke’s German Whole Wheat bread last I heard. While it is a little more expensive than the loaves usually available, I will say that the price increases we have had with other loaves have made the price difference very small - for what is a vastly superior loaf of bread, in my humble opinion.
I love Chee Mooke’s German Whole Wheat bread. It is very tasty, includes multiple grains, and is so substantial that even if you stick to your recommended number of slices, you should be full for some time. (This is not a paid endorsement, by the way, they don’t even know I exist.) Chee Mooke headquarters is on Independence Square, aka the Promenade, but behind the Cathedral opposite Tamarind Square.
When you add an egg to this you have the makings of a very good breakfast. A soft boiled egg to be exact.
Here are instructions for the perfect soft boiled egg.
I usually cut the egg carefully in half while it is sitting on one slice of bread and scoop the other half to my second slice. Smear the bread with the egg. Do not salt, instead sprinkle with garlic powder, NOT garlic salt, and hot sauce which will replace the salt nicely, the garlic will cut any freshness in the egg. A little paprika, smoked if you have it, will add colour and more flavour too. Serve with a leaf or two of lettuce and a slice of tomato.
